11. Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Resident Evil: Code Veronica, the next chapter in the Redfield's story would take placed shortly after the destruction of Racoon City. As Umbrella still lurked in the shadows, the two siblings set out to dismantle their hidden operation piece-by-piece.
From Rockford Island to the frosty wastes of Antarctica, Code Veronica deepened and developed its story, which culminated in a showdown with the nefarious Ashford family. Gameplay improvements also followed suite; firing weapons in first person and a panning camera may have been straightforward enhancements at the time, but they were new to Resident Evil, which took advantage of new hardware to propel the series forward.
Initially releasing on the SEGA Dreamcast and eventually making its way to the PlayStation 2 under the X port, Code Veronica was very much Resident Evil 3.5, a title that debuted Capcom's franchise on next-generation hardware and migrated over its trademark gameplay and design.
Corny dialogue aside, it remains a strong effort that picked up the story following Resident Evil 3 and added a set of notable refinements that set it apart. It wasn't a revolution for the series, but as a mid-point for Capcom's horror escapade, Code Veronica obtains a spot just short of the top ten
