9. Resident Evil Revelations 2

Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City Nemesis
Capcom

For the second Revelations title, Capcom took on several new directions; for starters, they tried their hand at an episodic release model. The gradual rollout from 2015 to 2017 saw four episodes across a wider range of systems. After an extended absense, the popular Claire Redfield returned to take the centre stage and teamed up with Moira Burton, following up with her father, Barry.

Filling in the gap between Resident Evil 5 and 6, Revelations 2 sees the pair battling the Afflicted, and the enigmatic Overseer who spawned them. With inspiration from the Czech author Franz Kafka, the narrative of Revelations was a successful blend of deeper themes and the more campy tone held in recent RE titles.

Add to that the same refined survival horror gameplay that made the first Revelations enjoyable and you've got another successful outing. Building off the original foundation, Revelations 2 stood out as a high improvement over the first, while also delivering another strong dose of survival horror.

While Capcom worked out a better direction for the franchise to take, this tided players over for a couple of years until Resident Evil 7: Biohazard emerged to fully revive the franchise.
