EVERY Resident Evil Game Ranked Worst To Best
22. Resident Evil Gaiden
Following in the footsteps of Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, Resident Evil Gaiden was the first title in the series you could play on the go. Distancing itself from the main series story and taking place on a cruise ship, former S.T.A.R.S operative Barry Burton is sent in to investigate the disturbance, while also tracking a missing Leon Kennedy.
Taking place mainly from a top-down-perspective, Gaiden swaps to a first person view with a golf swing meter to slash away at zombies and other undead monstrosities. Add to that looking for items around the various levels and you have the full gameplay spectrum.
Try as it might, Gaiden didn't manage to match the qualities of its superior portable brethren; on modest Game Boy hardware on the tail-end of its lifecycle, the title struggled to maintain the foreboding atmosphere the series was known for. Reviewers also took issue with the game's save system, which was inflexible in letting players record their progress.
It's an average game and doesn't hold up under scrutiny today, but for the time it was released, Gaiden possessed a novelty for its different perspective and altered gameplay style. We suppose having Barry Burton leading the campaign was also a plus for fans...
