Fallout 4: 10 Big Things That Could Ruin It

2. Another Uninteresting World Devoid Of Meaningful Detail

Fans have come to love it, but for the most part the world of Fallout is just way too dark, muddy and uninteresting to want to hang around in for too long. Can you honestly say that if aspects of the gameplay and general presentation of the narrative wasn't so enthralling, you'd still be ecstatic to explore everywhere? Sure there's not a huge amount you can do with a dilapidated post-apocalyptic ruin taken at face value, but The Last of Us and some of Destiny's planets showed how incredible it can look when nature slowly reclaims its own land piece by piece, showcasing a colour palette that wasn't all browns and greys. That's besides the fact that a lot of the texture work on many of the buildings themselves was blurry and jagged, looking more like the first pass of your average Unreal Engine game before the 'real' detail pops in. It's something that's obviously an indication of the tech at the time, but should be remedied for the newest generation of consoles for good. It's already been said multiple times that there's nothing on either the PS4 or Xbox One that's absolutely jaw-dropping in terms of scope and graphics combined - and that's where a title like Fallout can really deliver.
