Fallout 4: 10 Biggest WTF Moments From The E3 Demo

8. Massive Destruction

With a moment ripped straight out Fallout 3's Power of the Atom quest, in which the player watches over a settlement with a detonator by their side and simply observes the total decimation of a massive settlement by way of a dazzling explosion that lights up the night sky, Fallout 4 assured everyone that massive destruction would be present like never before. The airships that rose eyebrows in Bethesda's initial reveal made a jaw-dropping second appearance in the E3 showcase, with a behemoth airship of some variety seen slowly crashing towards the earth, engulfed in flames and exploding with aplomb upon impact; the player watches on in close proximity in what looks like a not entirely scripted event. Then of course there's the scene in which the player fires a missile at a manned Vertibird causing it to explode, its two four-bladed rotors soaring off in different directions, its cabin shattering and its body encompassed by a blinding light. In a neat touch, nearby debris€”including a corpse€”are sent flying backwards, caught up in the shockwave of the explosion. Clearly, Bethesda want destruction to be at the fore of combat as well as a vital part of their narrative, making the player's impact of the game world more immediate than it has been before.
