Fallout 4: 10 Biggest WTF Moments From The E3 Demo

3. It's Utterly Beautiful

Fans were left a little underwhelmed by the graphics of Fallout 4 in the wake of Bethesda's first reveal, with the animations and textures in particular looking two console generations behind the current standard. Nobody was particularly bothered by this; every Fallout fan knows that graphics make little difference to their enjoyment of a Fallout title. Very few people expected to be left awestruck by the graphics on display in Bethesda's showcase, but upon glimpsing the updated Creation Engine in action€”an engine that was modified from the Gamebryo engine that powered Fallout 3 and even Oblivion€”all agreed that the game looked sumptuous in action. With vastly improved lighting and shading, some form of depth-of-field mechanic and a greater level of detail and depth present in animations and textures. Fallout 4 looks bright, fresh and alive like never before: there's colour, nuance, depth and tactility in every scene of the showcase.
