Fallout 4: 10 Incredible Franchise Moments That Made Us Hardcore Fans

4. Meeting Harold

One of the easiest ways to ensure a franchise€™s popularity is through memorable, colorful characters. The Fallout universe has them in spades, but not many of them have made a return to the series after their original outing. That is not the case with Harold. Although he, originally, looks like an ordinary ghoul, Harold is special. That is why he has appeared in Fallout 1, 2 and 3 (as well as some of the crappy spin-offs). Every new encounter with Harold is a joyous occasion for the player. It€™s like meeting an old friend you haven€™t seen in ages. You are also bound to notice the odd quirk that Harold has €“ Bob. Bob is a tree that seems to be growing out of Harold€™s head. This is most evident in Fallout 2 but, by the time you meet him in Fallout 3, things have taken quite a weird turn. Bob the tree is now so massive that it has actually grown all over Harold, basically trapping him in place. By the time the Lone Wanderer meets Harold, he is completely miserable and has just one request of the vault dweller €“ to kill him. This situation perfectly illustrated how good a character Harold is. Up until this point, you€™ve been patrolling the Wasteland, killing dozens, even hundreds of people who may (or may not) have had it coming. Now you meet someone who actually wants you to kill him and you pause. Even if you€™ve never played the original games, Harold strikes an immediate chord with the player so you€™re left wondering whether you should fulfill his request or not.

Radu recently left a boring job and now writes stuff on the internet. When he's not here he's probably writing for GeeKiez. He's into wrestling, video games and a ton of TV shows, as well as all things weird or science-y. Feel free to talk to him about this stuff on Twitter.
