Fallout 4: 10 Key Lessons From 2013's Biggest Games

8. More Creative Gore & Dismemberment - Dead Rising 3

To be fair to Bethesda, they've already done a pretty amazing job with blood and gore in the Fallout games: firing a high-powered rifle at someone's noggin and watching it explode like a watermelon is extremely satisfying, and the studious mod community has released countless gore mods to make things even more hilariously grotesque. It would be fantastic to see Fallout 4 take a page out of Dead Rising 3's book and get a little more creative with its bloody mayhem: what about being able to adapt objects you pick up into weapons and rip enemies apart in a myriad of gory ways? Also, what about a more advanced targeting system which allows a greater variety of attacks? VATS is fantastic to a point, though attacking just six limbs (head, arms, legs and torso) seems a bit limited: what about a well-aimed shot to the crotch, or kneecapping someone to give them a more prolonged death? Sadistic perhaps, but it would certainly add even more freedom to the series.
