Fallout 4: 10 Locations That Could Be The Next New Vegas
8. New Mexico
Satisfying those who still aren't convinced that a Fallout game can take place anywhere other than the good ol' US of A, is New Mexico. With its arid scenery being not massively different to the Mojave Desert, it'd offer a visual familiarity to players who enjoyed the harsh, arid climes of New Vegas, while also bringing its own unique cities, scenery and faction politics. As with Mexico, New Mexico would offer an intriguing cultural mix between America and Mexico in the absence of a controlled border between the two countries. With the state never having been densely populated, you can picture it resembling a kind of post-apocalyptic wild west, with thinly scattered settlements and tribes speckling the hostile wasteland. Albuquerque - of Breaking Bad fame - would be the main city-hub of sorts, though obviously lacking the vibrance and bright lights of Vegas. It's not all desert either, with the Rio Grande river being surrounded by wetlands that'll provide a bit of topographical variety. Then there is Roswell, which would be a fitting place to visit given Fallout's historical disposition towards UFOs. New Mexico is part of the old Four States Commonwealth (which also includes Colorado, Utah and Arizona), and is thought to be run by Caesar's Legion - one of the series' more brutal and eccentric factions introduced in New Vegas. According to Van Buren, New Mexico is also home to the Reservation, a former military facility now run by a paranoid ghoul cult called the Children of the Wastelands, which believes that a war against the smooth-skins is inevitable. See? there's more to New Mexico than blue meth and Los Pollos Hermanos Fried Chicken...
