At the end of the day all immersive RPGs should have something of a crafting system, and being Fallout is built on the ragtag aesthetic of humanity scrabbling to find itself following an apocalyptic event, sure you should be able to create everything from hybrid weapons to med kits over the course of the game. The Last of Us did this stuff pretty well, where at any point if you'd amassed the appropriate materials you could delve into your backpack and produce a dedicated list of helpful items, ranging from petrol bombs to modified weapons. Naturally Fallout should go far further than both this and the paltry selection of products included in 3, and as Bloodborne is proving right now, creating steampunk-influenced weapons that are essentially two things at once (like that game's rifle spear) can be great fun to wield in-game. Combine this with the VATS system to show your creations off and a procedural levelling system that only gives you the finest med-kits, remedies and items across the game, and it's a perfect way to flesh out everyone's individual time with the game.
