Fallout 4: 12 Early Reactions You Need To Know

7. Companion Mechanics Are Highly Flawed

Ever since we all first saw the dog known as Dogmeat, we've been looking forward to chilling with him in the wasteland...but going by the early reviews, the mechanics are something of a mixed bag, which given their track record in this series, isn't at all surprising. Most of the criticism is leveled around the bad ally AI, such that your companion will "frequently run blindly into chaos" (Game Informer), and they're always quick to go down during an epic battle. Amusingly, Eurogamer said, "as in previous games, they're more useful as walking backpacks than as actual companions, while Gamespot criticised the "lack of streamlined companion controls". Sure, companions are never the be-all and end-all of these games, but given how much effort has been put into marketing the bond between man and his best friend, it's undeniably disappointing that this aspect of the game is still assailed by bargain basement intelligence routines.
