Dogmeat has made an appearance in every Bethesda Fallout game so far, and the only mainline game in the series that he isn't officially been featured in, 2010's Fallout New Vegas, has a mod to add him into the game due to popular demand.
Dogmeat epitomises the Fallout experience, offering unwavering support and unquestioning companionship throughout the often solitary and unforgiving wasteland. Unlike other companions in the series, he is an ever-present, following the player character regardless of their moral choices and group affiliations.
Not only does Dogmeat provide the protagonist fellowship throughout their journey in post-apocalyptia, but he is also more than capable of assisting the player with both combat and scavenging. There really are few better feelings than being running dangerously low on ammo until man's best friend jumps into to help out with a few much needed .308 rounds.
An upgraded Dogmeat with some added features would be a great addition to the next installment of the Fallout franchise.
