Fallout 5: 10 Locations We Want To See

3. China

As the other major player in the Great War, exploring China would give us a Fallout game that feels fundamentally different to its predecessors.

Just as Fallout's U.S draws its inspiration from a blend of 50's retro-future and paranoid McCarthyism, a China of this world would be a mix of traditional Chinese design and a Communist brutalism. With plenty of propaganda thrown in, exploring China would be a stylistically unique experience in the Fallout series.

With a U.S invasion occurring just before the Great War, we have the perfect excuse to blend these styles. Stuck in formerly enemy territory, they could be anything from an integrated community to violent isolationists. This would be just one of potentially dozens of factions existing in the ruins of China.

This is also a region that would be brimming with pre-war technology. As Operation: Anchorage showed us, China had a focus on stealth technology and advanced tanks over the power armour of the U.S, a distinct feeling in both the lore and the gameplay.

China is a country of many terrains, giving us a wealth of environments and set pieces. Finally, visiting China after 2287 would include the chance to see our favourite ghoul-ified submarine commander, Captain Zao.

My passion for all things Sci Fi goes back to my earliest days, when old VHS copies of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet gripped my tiny mind with their big, noisy vehicles and terrifying puppets. I'd like to say my taste got more refined over the years, but between the Warhammer, Space Dandy and niche Star Wars EU books, perhaps it just got broader. I've enjoyed games of all calibre since I figured out that dice weren't just for eating, and have written prose ever since I was left unsupervised with some crayons next to a white wall. I got away with it by calling it "schoolwork" for as long as I could, and university helped me keep the charade going a while longer. Since my work began to get published, it's made all those long hours repainting the walls seem worth it.
