Fallout 5: 10 Things It Must Do Better Than 4
5. Useless Companions
Why are companions always useless?
The only exception to this rule comes from Dogmeat, who is actually pretty great. Besides him though, every other companion in the game comes across as forced and pretty ineffective, no matter what aspect of the game you use them in.
Although it can be pretty fun to build up relationships with your companions, it doesn't stop them from being Stimpak-thieves and bullet shields. Some of these characters are pretty great in their own right, like Nick Valentine, but that doesn't stop them from being intrusive during gameplay.
Why not introduce a feature that allows any character in the game to become a companion? If Bethesda really put their all into Fallout 5, surely every single character in the game will be as developed as companions are supposed to be.
Not only would this prevent it from feeling forced, but it'd certainly make the experience feel a lot more tailored to the player themselves. Can't get more personal than choosing your own companion.
