Fallout 5: 10 Things It Must Do Better Than 4
4. Decisions Lacking Impact
Remember that scene in Fallout 3 where you have to choose between letting a whole city perish, or getting a bunch of money? Yeah, that was pretty impactful.
Decisions lacking impact is a problem that only Fallout 4 really seems to have. Every other Fallout game before it has had moments that can massively change the story or simply change side quests to the point you have a wildly difference experience.
Fallout 4 does have some pretty big moments in its story that give the player a significant choice in what to do, but it never feels like it really has any impact. It's never really a choice that you care about making, and you only ever really make one choice over another to get cooler items.
Choosing whether or not to blow up Megaton in Fallout 3 really was a difficult moment. Sure, you may not have any good gear from the start, but you'd also be saving the lives of an entire town. On the flipside, wouldn't you like a headstart in the Wasteland? The choice was yours.
If Fallout 5 wants to come anywhere close to the greatness of past games, it really needs have moments like these.
