Fallout 5: 12 Things We Want To See

8. More Polished Combat

To Bethesda's credit, they certainly made a solid attempt to improve the series' combat from Fallout 3 and New Vegas, which made real-time shooting a frustrating chore, where hitting enemies was awkward and clumsy, and V.A.T.S. would more often than not save the day. Fallout 4 definitely fine-tunes combat to the extent that it's possible to play most of the game without V.A.T.S. (and it's just as well, because V.A.T.S. only slows the action down this time, not pausing it completely), but it's still pretty far from the more precise shooting seen in, say, the Call of Duty series (don't groan). The shooting controls still feel a little floaty, and nailing exact shots is rather fiddly in busy scenarios. One can argue that this reflects the real-life intensity of close-quarters firefights, but we're pretty sure that in real-life, a gun points exactly where your brain asks it to. This is one of the more realistic improvements on this list, one which wouldn't require a world of effort but would enhance the experience significantly.
