Fallout 5: 12 Things We Want To See

5. Greater Quest Variety

It's hard to argue with the wealth of content Bethesda have served up for Fallout 4 in terms of missions and side content, but it's a shame that so many of the missions, especially the core story ones, felt so achingly familiar. You traverse the wasteland, head to a big location, shoot your way through a building, kill the boss at the end, teleport back to Diamond City, find out more information, rinse and repeat. It's just not very inspired and, like so many aspects of the game, feels like Bethesda cut corners just to get the game finished. Wouldn't it have been awesome to see more scripted events injected into the missions, to see surprises come out of nowhere that change the environment and your playthrough forever? Yes, this would result in even more unpredictable variables in a game clearly already struggling to juggle everything it's holding, but it's somewhat disappointing that there wasn't much more to most of the missions than the standard formula (though that mission where you explore Kellogg's memories was pretty out-there).
