Perhaps more than any other developer out there, Bethesda has embraced mods and the modding community. But while they've been dedicated to helping this community thrive, their motivations aren't completely innocent, and the company has long been testing ways that they can get away with charging for these outsourced add-ons.

But while their first attempt to monetise mods was instantly met with disdain from the community, forcing the company to backtrack on their plans, this year's E3 showcase saw a revitalised attempt to put a price on this fan-created content.

What they've currently devised is a better system than what they had, for sure, ensuring that creators (and of course, Bethesda) receive some sort of incentive to support and create the content, but it's still far from perfect.

Either way, going into Fallout 5 you can expect an even bigger push towards mods both on console and PC - but don't be surprised if a good chunk of them require you to get your wallet out first.
