As previously mentioned, story and exposition tend to be the bread and butter of any Fallout experience worth its salt, and many have expressed concerns regarding a de-emphasized story which was scaled-back in favor of an online focus.

Bethesda may in fact defy expectations and deliver and marvelous and compelling narrative while simultaneously introducing these radical changes, but, at the moment, there is a bit of merit in remaining wary. Plenty of gamers have been spurned by overzealous expectation in the past, and it seems like this jack-of-all-trades Fallout title may truly end up being a master of none.

Beta testers have already commented on the fact that there seems to have been a total absence of human NPCs in the build they played, and, while that could mean a number of things, it does at the very least seem a bit strange that Bethesda would write a narrative totally devoid of any human characters at all. Lest we run across a village of friendly super mutants, sane ghouls, or any other intelligent non-humanoids, fans have a reason to question just what Bethesda is trying to accomplish.
