Fallout 76: 8 Details That Have Us Worried
2. Base Building
A totally divisive and relatively ill-received mechanic in 2015's Fallout 4, the game's base building options were often unnecessary at best and annoying at worst. The mechanic meant that everything the player comes across in the world—from large metal sheets to small coffee cups and clipboards—could be useful. Yet, few really felt like putting their adventures on hold to appease Preston Garvey by constructing yet another set of wooden shacks.
Bethesda's decision to double down on this controversial mechanic is a bit of a strange one, but it does seem to have a definite place in the greater Fallout 76 experience. Players will be able to form small clans and construct forts and safe-houses together, and this could make for a great experience, if not one sort of derivative of earlier titles like Rust or even Minecraft.
This could be a total home run for Fallout 76. Yet, should Bethesda foul this system up for a second time, fans aren't likely to be all that forgiving. On paper, this concept could definitely work, but there are more than a few ways the studio behind the game could ruin it.
