Fallout 76: 8 Mechanics Fallout 4 Ditched That Must Return

4. The Dialogue System

The dialogue system was one of the most heavily criticised additions to the game. It was incredibly jarring when you picked an option in Fallout 4, thinking that it was a rather neutral choice, but in actual fact, 'inquire about family' causes you to infer that the NPC's mother is on the same mating grounds as the local horse.

The dialogue system, whilst refined, was just bad. It didn't give you enough to accurately gauge what you were going to say, and ultimately didn't offer as much choice as it alluded to. Mods that revealed exactly what the choices caused the player to say revealed just how restrictive the dialogue was.

With Fallout 76 pushing an online component, it makes sense that they would ditch the voice acting to some extent, which would then require the player to be able to choose entire sentences to say and would no longer restrict the dialogue writers.
