Fallout: New Vegas - 10 Things Nobody Admits It Did Better Than 3
7. Hardcore Mode
Although the Fallout universe is far from the most realistic depiction of a post-apocalyptic landscape, it was always a shame that Bethesdas game didnt really implement any mechanics that reflected the punishing world the characters lived in. Although you could be crippled and poisoned, these ailments didnt provide much of a threat when they could be solved by a simple Stimpack or RadAway. New Vegas on the other hand gave all those budding survivalist types the opportunity to play through the game in a more punishing and realistic way. Making it so crippled limbs could only be treated by a doctors bag or an actual doctor, lessening the effectiveness of Stimpacks and other health items, and even making it so you had to regularly eat, sleep and drink so you wouldn't succumb to sickness, the games Hardcore mode did great wonders for increasing player immersion into the title. There was just something rewarding about entering a heavily guarded area, breaking two limbs in the process and having to shoot your way out the other side with nothing but your limited resources and quick thinking to get you through. Limping all the way to the doctors office after one of those fights never felt so good.
