8. Story Doesn't Really Go Anywhere
Although Far Cry 5 was initially shown as having a serious story, it doesn't really make full use of its premise and instead only shows us rare glimpses of seriousness.
This wouldn't be such a problem if the series wasn't renowned for its characters and if the story didn't have such great potential like it does here. Far Cry 5 could have told a genuinely bone-chilling story with some great relevance but it instead devotes its time to being silly.
Whether or not this bothers you is going to be entirely subjective, but it's definitely noticeable how Far Cry 5 was marketed compared to the final product. There are a few moments in the game that still have this tone, but it's mostly few and far between.
The story really just ends up being one fantastic introduction and then meandering about until the final few moments of the game, which is especially disappointing when Joseph Seed has the potential to be such a fantastic villain.
