Far Cry 5 Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs
2. Gameplay Is Vastly Improved
Everything that makes a Far Cry game great has been improved upon in the newest title. Shooting, driving and movement are all much better, which helps make Far Cry 5 feel like the next big step, unlike Far Cry 4 or Primal.
Saying that, one of the best things that Far Cry 5 does to advance the formula is take elements from the past games and add them to the newest one. Melee weapons feature in a pretty big way in Far Cry 5, and that certainly wouldn't have been possible without Primal, and the use of animals as help is straight from that game too.
Another big gameplay addition is the fact that exploring and updating the map is completely free now and feels surprisingly natural. Getting the information from a sign or from someone you've just saved feels great, and much better than having quest markers just show up.
If you want a clear example of how much Far Cry 5 evolves from the last real game, just look at the Buzzer from Far Cry 4 compared to the helicopters in 5. That's as perfect a metaphor as you could ask for.
