Far Cry 6: 10 Reasons The Haters Are Wrong
3. Anton Castillo
El Presidente Anton Castillo may be perhaps the best villain the Far Cry series has to date. No offense to Vaas, but Castillo's character traits, combined with his incredible portrayal by Giancarlo Esposito, creates a memorable and compelling antagonist.
There has been some criticism levelled at Castillo; that he is TOO over the top and TOO evil. Sadly, if you look at Central and South American regimes even in just the last decade, it quickly becomes apparent that Anton is not that far off the mark with how he does business.
Anton has an odd charm to him (again, Esposito's voice work and personality shining through), and as the game progresses his reasons for wanting to crack the whip against the revolutionary guerrillas of Libertad become more apparent, even somewhat sympathetic.
One of these reasons is Anton's son, Diego. Diego is the Presidente in waiting, the 13-year-old boy who will one day be king. He doesn't share his father's ruthlessness or aggression, preferring instead to try and let all Yarans live in peaceful co-existence.
Anton, despite the immense love he has for his son, sees this as a weakness. He understands that the world is a hard and demanding place that needs hard and demanding leaders. He wants Anton to be ready for his future role as Yara's leader; with this in mind he is practicing a sort of tough love with both his citizens and his son.
Anton's time on screen is simply mesmerising.
