Hunting was a central theme of both Far Cry 3 and 4, but with the Stone Age setting, the game needs to address that most fundamental of reasons that people ever began hunting in the first place - food. Promisingly, Ubisoft said that 'hunting for food' will be play a big role in Primal, so there's a good chance it could be implemented in a way similar to survival games. I'm not just talking about food in the sense that eating a raw steak of wooly mammoth should instantly undo the damage from a rival tribesman's spear. Food should be essential to the survival of you and your tribe. For example, an interesting mechanic would be to gather meat you hunt down in the wild and take it back to your tribe, creating a stockpile for your people. If the game goes through all the seasons of the year (which it should, considering what an impact the changing of the seasons had on peoples' lives back then), then it'd be great for that to affect food supplies - more demand in the winter, quicker to start rotting in the summer. In terms of food's relationship to the player, if Primal just became a hand-to-mouth struggle to avoid starvation, then that would be probably a bit too 'real' and could take the joy out of the game. There should be consequences for not eating, such as diminished stamina, and certain buffs for eating - temporary boosts to stamina, jumping, health, and so on. What are you looking forward to most in Far Cry Primal? Let us know in the comments!
