Much like the aforementioned Wojciech Szczesny, Koscielnys 2013/14 season got off to a woeful start when the 28-year-old was sent off in that embarrassing home loss to Aston Villa. Just like Szczesny, the Frenchman was able to cope with the added pressure of having had an abysmal start to the season and ultimately have an extremely successful campaign. Operating in tandem with Per Mertesacker, the alliance of a Frenchman and a German proved to be surprisingly successful. The two men formed the backbone of the Arsenal defence which were responsible for the side enjoying a staggering 128 days at the top of the league. The more agile Koscielny made up for his relatively sluggish partner and the pair were widely regarded as two of the finest centre backs of last season. A stellar season at the back has supposedly been enough for Koschielny to keep his high rating of 83 in FIFA 15. A case could even be made that centre back deserves an even higher rating. Indeed his strength rating currently 69 seems low for a player who had no problem committing to meaty challenges.
