FIFA 15: 10 Players Who Need Downgrading After World Cup
6. Wayne Rooney 87
If theres one world-class player who England look to to elevate them from a solid team to a great squad its Wayne Rooney. It was evident even before the extensive post-mortem of Englands surprising (or not-so-surprising) premature exit from the biggest contest in football that the sides star had under performed. Rooney may have provided Daniel Sturridge with the perfectly weighted cross for the Liverpool striker to equalise against Italy and picked up his first ever World Cup goal against Uruguay (from an easy tap in) but that was it. Aside from these two memorable moments, Wayne looked ineffectual in possession losing the ball a frustrating number of times, lacking his trademark long shot and taking some diabolical set-pieces. Wayne was one of the few players pulling their weight at United last season but his performance in Brazil which had many calling for him to be dropped after the Italy game makes him undeserving of his 87 rating. Now age 28, this will be Rooneys last World Cup at his athletic peak. Its hard not to think that England havent got their moneys worth from the young prospect who promised so much back in the UEFA Euro 2004. Suggested Rating: 84
