FIFA 17: 8 Things EA Still Can't Get Right

5. Computer AI

Regardless of what difficulty you’re playing on, making the computer AI as realistic yet user-friendly as possible is always a challenge. Make the players too poor and amateur-ish will ruin the realism of the whole game and make you feel like you're playing against kids. Make the players too responsive and realistic and you’ll have to be an actual professional footballer to get anywhere in the game. In general, the AI in FIFA 17 is pretty responsive and controls the players like an actual player would. However, there are still a few little things that EA haven’t fixed.

On your own team, players will still make poor runs or just get in your way when you’re storming into the box. On the opposition, players will still manually run in circles to control the ball rather than use skill moves, and will still do those annoying short free kicks and goal kicks when the natural instinct would be to hit it long. Obviously not every team just hoofs the ball upfield, but it seems the computer always wants to take it short, even when you’ve got a man closing in on the receiving player.

It doesn't impact on the overall experience that much, but it's obvious enough to make you wonder why EA haven't just fixed it already.
