EA made a lot of noise about their revamped set piece system for FIFA 17. The core idea was to make dead ball situations more realistic and true to life, rather than pot luck kicks that were no different if lumbering defender John Stones was taking them instead of David Silva.

The reason this new way of doing things failed wasn't anything to do with FIFA fans not embracing change, but because it just felt a bit stiff.

Instead of watching Ronaldo gracefully stride towards the ball with confidence, awkward and jerky animations put players off and resulted in CR7 blasting the ball into Row Z.

Gaming site N4G discussed the rumours that EA might be willing to revert back to the more traditional set piece system. That could be true, but would the developers be willing to throw in the towel after just one attempt?
