FIFA 18 Demo: 7 Things We Learned
3. You're Going To Score Loads More From Crosses
EA boast that the new crossing mechanics will deliver a range of options to players. Now, you can 'whip, arch and ping' balls into the box at your leisure. In theory, this should be a challenge to master, but it was actually more difficult to screw up a cross than have it land right in front of a team mate in the demo. Even outlandish crosses under pressure were made to look easy.
There's no need to hold down the button either, because FIFA 18 does much of the work for you. Much like dodgy goalkeeping, maybe this is something the developers have ironed out for the full game. If they haven't, then you're going to be scoring a lot of goals with the head this year. Balls almost stick to attackers inside the box and evade defenders with ease.
That, combined with the fact goalies don't come for many crosses, means a lot of free chances inside the penalty area. This system is like a throwback to the old FIFA titles. Back then, crosses would go exactly where players wanted them to with minimal effort. FIFA 18 seems to be the same.
