FIFA 18: Ranking Every Major New Feature (From Worst To Best)

3. Real Player Motion Technology

One of the biggest challenges when making any video game must be ensuring characters move like real people. Football games have always favoured a 'glide' approach, meaning players look like they floating just above the pitch rather than running on top of it. That visual was never helped by stiff animations.

FIFA 18 is a visible jump up from 17 in terms of movement. In motion, the game's best players move just as they would in real life, which is pleasing to see. Cristiano Ronaldo's trademark leggy sprints and Lionel Messi's low centre of gravity look different. That's good enough to make this 'Real Player Motion Technology' claim ring true.

EA were very precise with their wording, making sure to say that only top names move like their real-life counterparts. This means you shouldn't be expecting Stephen Ireland's movements to be dead on at Stoke. You probably wouldn't have noticed anyway.

Player motion is a success this year.
