FIFA 18 Wishlist: 10 Things That Must Be Included
1. Revamped Career Mode
Career Mode used to be FIFA’s main selling point, but Ultimate Team’s incredible success has seen it surpassed in popularity. Plenty of people still play Career, of course, but it has very much taken a backseat in recent years, and this is reflected in the developers’ effort towards improving it.
Career Mode is dying for a revamp. It has never felt so stale and lifeless, and it’s full of minor bugbears that only turn players away. From the clunky interface to inaccurate player valuations, FIFA 17’s Career was rife with problems, and brought few improvements from 16.
Career has become a shallow experience, particularly in the advent of The Journey, and there’s little reason to play for any longer than a season or two. Last year saw EA try to freshen things up by implementing long-term goals, but it wasn’t enough, and there was little to differentiate FIFA 17’s Career Mode from previous incarnations.
EA are often criticised for the lack of innovations between FIFA games, but revamping Career Mode could go a long way to squashing these claims. For many players, embarking on a long, eventful career is still the game’s most enjoyable aspect, and things like increased player communication, a more in-depth transfer system, and new menus would go a long way to improving the experience.
