FIFA 19: 10 New Features That Fix Annoying Problems
5. Goalkeepers Don't Always Pick The Ball Up
Those who have called top level keepers like David de Gea and Manuel Neuer every name under the sun when they don't do what they're told in FIFA will be pleased to hear that goalies are getting an overhaul too.
The main problem with keepers in recent titles is that, for all their shot-stopping brilliance and apparent improvements, they don't act like real people. Decision-making has been especially bothersome. For example, seeing de Gea pick the ball up when a simple pass out to his defence would be best is annoying, and so is Neuer doing that looped throw instead of a roll along the ground when players are two yards from him.
Now, goalkeepers have better intelligence across the board. Yes, they'll probably still punch crosses at corners and fail to close angles down when sprinting out, but they won't panic and pick up the ball when under little pressure. That's an improvement, one that might just make them more realistic.
It's about time EA started getting keepers right, and that's specifically true of the world's best.
