FIFA 21: 8 Reasons To Give Career Mode A Chance
6. Retraining Positions Is Rewarding
One of the worst aspects about Career Mode of old was that your manager never really felt in control of player destiny. Sure, they'd whinge about a lack of game time or suddenly decide they were homesick and didn't like living in England (after five years), but that was about it.
In 21, you can retrain players and either destroy their careers completely or draw more out of them by finding a new position. It's a majestic risk and reward system, and it's fun to fiddle around with. Here's an example: Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the best wing backs in FIFA, but yours truly started experimenting with his passing and shooting during training drills.
Then, after a steady stream of stat-based improvements, the bold decision was made. Trent would become an attacking midfielder. To everyone's surprise, after an awkward period of transition, he turned into one of the best in the league. In turn, that kicked off a worldwide hunt for another world class defender to replace him.
It was a thrilling, organic storyline that could easily have gone wrong.
