FIFA 22 Beta: 10 Hands-On First Impressions

6. Legendary Is Hard As Nails

FIFA 22
EA Sports

Well, that was a bit of a lesson.

This FIFA veteran fired up 22's Beta, chortled at the suggestion he play on Professional difficulty and horsed it all the way up to Legendary. Then, he started a match between Leeds and Barcelona in the Champions League, and...was 3-0 down within 20 minutes. Ouch.

The confusing thing here is that this writer typically plays FIFA 21 on Ultimate Difficulty with sliders that slant attributes in favour of the AI. In other words, he relishes challenge, and still regularly thrashes the CPU despite being up against it. That doesn't seem to be the case in this year's game.

It's unclear whether or not this is something EA will soften in time for the full release, but the difficulty spike feels right here. After all, it should feel hard as nails to beat Man City as Brentford on Legendary or Ultimate levels, and Leeds should struggle to cope with top sides on European nights.

Difficulty should be embraced for the vets.
