FIFA 22 Review: 7 Ups & 5 Downs

3. HyperMotion

FIFA 22
EA Sports

Yes, "HyperMotion" is a gimmicky name, but it actually works.

This next-gen exclusive (yes, even the mighty PC has been excluded in that convo - this is PS5 and Xbox Series X/S only) means that most players on the pitch respond to situations more like real-life footballers would. Basically, they're not all just kicking about in limited patrol mode until the ball enters their zone.

Naturally, this is more evident when you're playing as top sides like Man City, PSG or Bayern Munich, but that's fine. The fact that lads lumping the ball about during a League One clash between Rotherham and Bolton don't perform the same way as Messi, Sterling etc is absolutely understandable.

Slow the play to a halt and you'll see players react in different ways. Some will encourage teammates to press and put pressure on the ball carrier, whereas others may even look a bit shocked that nothing is happening. Everything feels a lot more organic than it once did.

This "HyperMotion" thing has serious potential.
