FIFA 23: 10 Big Changes EA Sports Need To Revitalise The Franchise

5. A Complete Gameplay Overhaul

With yearly titles, the biggest problem is to keep innovating and bringing in new features to keep fans of the series interested. All sports titles that have had updates every year for the last few decades particularly struggle with this, as other titles such as Madden and even WWE have found. Often a new game features only minor tweaks to gameplay each year, with no major overhaul as there isn't the time whilst churning out a new title every 12 months.

Hypermotion was the big change that came in for FIFA 22, but it hasn’t had the impact on gameplay that fans were hoping for. Elsewhere big goalkeeper changes were promised but these weren't noticeable in-game, neither was the newly improved tactical AI.

Wholesale changes need to be made to make the actual game itself more entertaining for casual fans. Both major football titles - as in FIFA and Pro Evolution - have over the years had to decide what style of game they want to make. Do they make one as close to real life as possible or do they tone down some areas to make it more fun to play? EA Sports seem to be stuck in the middle with FIFA at the moment, meaning a big gameplay overhaul is required.
