FIFA 23 Beta: 10 Hands-On First Impressions You Need To Know

7. Slower Gameplay Won’t Suit Everyone

It's worth pointing out before digging in here that EA will tweak the core gameplay pre-release. They'll also change certain aspects several times via patches, because that’s just what they do. However, it does look like they want to slow everything down in FIFA 23.

That suits this player, but it might not suit you.

It’s still possible to exploit crummy defensive AI if you know what you’re looking for though; once one player steps out of position, a quick lofted through ball over the top typically baffles the entire backline, for example. You might come to rely on that, because everything has been slowed to a crawl in the middle of the park.

Players aren't as quick to turn when in possession, and there does appear to be a slight delay between button presses and what happens on-screen. This is a Beta version, remember, so that'll (hopefully) be ironed out ahead of the full release.
