Is there any trickier boss in the history of Final Fantasy than Absolute Virtue? Probably not.

First introduced in 2005 to the MMO Final Fantasy XI, Absolute Virtue is the ultimate superboss. So powerful that one party spent 30 hours trying to beat the thing unsuccesfully. So powerful, that three years after its introduction, the thing still hadn't been beaten.

Even getting to Absolute Virtue was a slog in itself. You have to kill lots of different enemies to spawn Jailers, then kill all of them to spawn a Jailer of Love. With that dead, Absolute Virtue will emerge.

After its introduction and proving unbeatable, Square Enix had to nerf Absolute Viture by reducing its hit points to a third of what they were. The catch? They also slapped on a two hour time limit to the battle, which was still impossible. The damn creature has regen constantly, upping its health regularly by +500 HP.

Using exploits, some players were finally able to fell the thing. Then Square Enix patched those exploits, making it once again impossible to beat legitimately.

It turns out there is a way to actually do it, but it's long and incredibly convoluted, involving sealing away the creature's powers by accomplishing various difficult tasks.
