So an entry in the Final Fantasy VII Ultimania book - released after FF7 Remake in April last year - has director Tetsuya Nomura and producer Yoshinori Kitase say that Remake is actually the "fifth part" of the "compilation of Final Fantasy VII".

FYI, the "Compilation" is 2005's movie Advent Children, anime short Before Crisis, PSP game Crisis Core and PS2 game Dirge of Cerberus". Everything Square Enix did to bulk out the "world" of Final Fantasy VII in honour of its 10th anniversary.

Nomura's comments directly contrast what he said in 2017 - that nothing outside of the remake was "canon" to the remake itself. I.E. they were doing their own thing, because "these games will hardly have an overall coherence. It will be difficult because there is no more continuity between the Compilation and the Remake for the moment."

That "moment" was clearly 2017, as not only is Dirge of Cerberus in the new canon with characters like Weiss and Nero now being bosses; not only is Crisis Core a bigger deal as Zack is being brought in from the beginning, but Advent Children has a tie that goes back into the main game, too.

I'll bring all this back around to Zack, but first...
