If only the lack of an apostrophe was the most disturbing thing about this encounter.

In a move borrowed from a certain Freddy Krueger, this boss creepily pokes its head and claws through the wall behind Cloud, looming over our spiky-headed hero. The battle that ensues is one of the toughest the party has fought up to this point, with the Gate proving itself a worthy guardian of the Temple of the Ancients.

Demons Gate's iconic status and the importance of the Temple to the plot mean that we will almost certainly encounter this boss at some point in the Remake project. This battle could take advantage of the environment in interesting ways – turning the boss's "Demon Rush" attack into a panicky countdown to escape a shrinking room – and the original version's creepy design will no doubt be done justice by the current artistic team's outstanding vision and talent.

Emotions are running high at the point in the story at which this boss appears, and a well-handled sequence involving the Gate would certainly ramp up the tension towards the climax of this segment of the game. Perhaps they'll even add that apostrophe, and set everyone's mind at ease once and for all.
