Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2: 7 Enemies We NEED To Fight

4. Midgar Zolom

The Midgar Zolom – over 30 feet tall, if Chocobo Bill is to be believed – is an enormous cobra encountered early on in your world map adventures. What starts as a simple crossing over a pale marsh suddenly becomes a nightmare race back to dry land when the Zolom's shadow appears.

In addition to presenting the player with an "un-winnable" fight that must instead be avoided, this section of the game serves as an introduction to chocobo catching/riding, as well as continuing to build up Sephiroth as a serious threat.

Enemies like Grashtrike and Jenova Dreamweaver showcased the artists' capacity for creating convincingly gross, gooey beasties, and now they have the opportunity to create a new generation of ophidiophobes (a fear of snakes) too.

Giant snakes, however, are less of a novelty in games now than they were 25 years ago; therefore, the game's creators will have to come up with something special to re-establish the Midgar Zolom's status as a unique enemy and source of terror. Regardless of the extent to which its story involvement or appearance are changed, however, fans of the original will hopefully feel that strange mix of warm familiarity and cold panic when they see the Zolom's shadow in the pale marshlands.
