Summons did not play a part in the original game until after the party left Midgar, but given how much the vast majority of fans love the series’ most iconic creatures, they were brought forward in the remake.

They have never played any particular part in VII’s plot (as opposed to VI, VIII, IX and X where they are heavily involved in he story) and are just there without real explanation in the remake. Still, Chocobo/Moogle, Ifrit, Shiva, Leviathan, Bahamut and Fat Chocobo (and Carbuncle, Cactuar and Chocobo Chick as pre-order bonuses) are likely the first of many, given the original boasted 16.

Given Bahamut’s status as the remake’s ‘ultimate’ summon, this writer will go out on a limb and say that each subsequent episode of the game will include a different iteration of the King of Dragons, given that the original game had Neo Bahamut and Bahamut Zero and the Compilation added Bahamuts Fury and Sin.

Series mainstay Ramuh was conspicuously absent and seems certain to appear next time around, given that Lightning was the only element not represented. Typhoon could also be brought forward to cover Wind given that is only half of Chocobo/Moogle’s repertoire.

Knights Of The Round and other powerful summons like Phoenix and Alexander might be some way off yet, so the likes of Titan (earth elemental, though earth wasn’t an element in Part I), Kujata (multi elemental) and Odin seem most likely to also join proceedings next.
