Final Fantasy 7 Remake Sequel - 10 Bold Predictions
4. A World Map Is Explorable
Overworld
maps are a thing of the past in the world of Final Fantasy, given that
technological advancements can now facilitate a planet that doesn’t need be
traversed in a matter of minutes. XV’s huge open world, which could ultimately
be traversed by airship, means that Square-Enix have not completely consigned
the concept to the bin like they have with random encounters, however.
The departure from Midgar is what opens up the world map for the first time in the original game. The routes between towns can be expected to be more corridor-esque in Part II and beyond of the remake, but there will almost certainly be some off the beaten track exploring to do.
A buggy is granted to players of the original a few towns after the events in Midgar and following on from XV’s inclusion of a car, letting players drive this around what will now be a luscious and fully-rendered world rather than a flat and featureless world map terrain would be an absolute treat.
Given its iconic status, the Highwind airship will certainly have to make an appearance in the remake, even if it comes several episodes down the line. Laying the foundations with a buggy in Part II (and then the Tiny Bronco in Part III) would be a positive sign that players would get to pilot the ship rather than just be a passenger on it.
