Final Fantasy 7 Remake Sequel - 10 Bold Predictions

3. Stats Are Reset Or Reduced

A problem that Square-Enix have created for themselves by planning to release the remake episodically is how progress from one game will carry over to the next. The level cap is 50 and it is perfectly possible to have 9999 HP as well as stats numbering in the hundreds and an entire collection of mastered materia.

If players are allowed to carry their stats over, those that grinded to maximum in Part I will likely find Part II too easy given their maxed out stats, materia collections and full selection of weapon abilities, whereas players that only did the minimum in Part I or didn’t play it at all would be locked out of progression if the difficulty is ramped up to accommodate this.

The only really feasible solutions are either an approach that scales difficulty based on progression in Part I, a full reset that makes everybody start at the bottom once more (which has its disadvantages – why would a team that bested Sephiroth now have a problem with some angry rats?) or a partial reset that rewards completion of Part I without breaking the game.

Expect some sort of combination of the three.

For financial reasons, Square Enix won’t alienate potentially new players, nor would ‘stat creep’, where enemies end up have millions and millions of hit points and player stats are in the thousands because growth hasn’t been curbed in some way, be particularly viable.
