Final Fantasy 7 Remake Sequel - 10 Bold Predictions
2. The Story Ends At Rocket Town
Even though Square-Enix now seemingly have free reign to craft a completely new narrative, it is relatively safe to assume that the locations visited will be true to the original, even if different events pan out in each of them.
From Midgar,
the story makes visits to Kalm, the Chocobo Farm/Mythril Mines, Junon and the
cargo ship journey to Costa Del Sol, Corel/Gold Saucer/Desert Prison, Cosmo
Canyon, Nibelheim and Rocket Town before players are given their first
opportunity to properly explore with the Tiny Bronco plane/boat.
Assuming that Part II will match Part I in terms of volume, eighteen to twenty chapters would just about cover a similar journey given that the visits to most of those locales are fleeting, and they are dwarfed by Midgar in terms of scale.
Most could be expanded and turned into side quest hubs, as each slum was in remake’s version of Midgar, but the core story in each area could easily be a one and done deal with the exception of Corel, where the prison break and the exploration of Barret’s relationship with Dyne needs more time to be done justice.
Leaving the story with the party about to go to the Temple Of The Ancients to collect the Black Materia then paves the way for a Part III that deals with that, the aftermath at the Forgotten City (and Aeris’ death if it is indeed replicated) and the snowy venture to the Northern Cave.
