Final Fantasy VII Remake: 10 Essential New Features It Needs
4. A New Battle System
Purists may disagree with this one, but as much as the active time battle system blew me away when I first played FF7, it doesn't hold up as well these days. Sure, there are definite aspects of it that are great, like having the ability to choose from multiple forms of attack. But something a little more action-packed would be a fun change.
Director Tetsuya Nomura has already said that the battle system will feature "dramatic changes" but also added that it won't be unrecognisable. So what exactly does that mean?
For one, we'll probably see a system that's more akin to modern-day action RPGs as opposed to the time-based system. But still don't take out the unique aspects that FF7 is known for.
Materia should definitely be retained so characters can use magic, but maybe balance it a bit more. Although some characters in the original are more effective with magic than others, each character could still be loaded up with magic abilities. It takes away a bit of the uniqueness of the characters.
Limit breaks should definitely be retained, as should the summon magic. But please give us the option to skip those long cinematics. Knights of the Round looks awesome the first few times but quickly becomes tedious to sit through.
While we're on the subject of tedium, less focus on random encounters would be nice.
