Final Fantasy VII Remake: 10 Essential New Features It Needs
3. A Decent Translation
The localization of FF7 was pretty sloppy. Even with all the ports the game has received, errors still persist across multiple versions. Beyond just simple grammar or spelling mistakes, there are some pieces of dialogue that are just head-scratchingly odd. And sometimes that's caused some confusion in the story.
It was mentioned before that Tseng was thought to be killed by Sephiroth by most players in the west. A lot of that can the fault of the translation for not making it very clear. During Tseng's final scene in the game, Aerith mentions that she and Tseng grew up together. But earlier when we see a flashback to him trying to recruit Aerith as a child to Shinra, Tseng is an adult.
There are also some confusing lines of dialogue that don't seem to make sense. In Wall Market, if you go to the Honeybee Inn, Cloud says, "So that's how you'll fool them" and then Aerith adds, "So that's how you fooled them." What does that even mean?
Square Enix needs to ensure they do an accurate translation of the game the second time around. Clear up the various inconsistencies in dialogue and fix the grammar mistakes. There's really no excuse for these kinds of errors that even a kid would criticise.
