Final Fantasy VII Remake: 10 Huge Things That Could Go Terribly Wrong
2. Expanding On The Story
There are plenty of things that Square Enix need to avoid doing to ensure they don't ruin the game, but there are also things that they need to incorporate to give players a better experience. One of those is the many different story elements that have been created around the original Final Fantasy VII. This is a veritable franchise surrounding the game these days, with spin-offs and movies all being readily available. Some of these shed further light on some of the characters, or simply act to expand the universe as a whole. All of them need to be taken into account to provide as complete an experience as possible. For example, thanks to Crisis Core we now know a lot more about Zack than the original Final Fantasy VII told us. This should be included, to an extent, along with more about Vincent, the war with Wutai and many of the other previously peripheral story elements that have since taken on a life of their own. Fan service is important but so is offering something new. By making sure that they incorporate the expanded mythology around Final Fantasy VII, Square Enix can still deliver the familiar story while embellishing it with something new. At the same time, trying to shoehorn extra story elements in where they aren't needed could ruin the flow of the game. As with everything else, it is a delicate balancing act that needs to be approached with care.
